Tonight’s episode of Batwoman will unravel the backstory we’ve all been waiting for: Alice’s. Here’s how you can watch it.

We haven’t met a whole lot of villains on The CW’s Batwoman just yet. But of the ones we have been introduced to, it’s clear who the star of the show is: Alice. Kate’s once-missing, previously thought dead sister is definitely the center of most of the action that’s happened in the series so far, and she’s the driving force between much of the relationship drama that’s occurred — at least when it comes to the Kane family.

Alice is clearly out to make her family suffer, though it’s unclear why she feels so strongly that they abandoned her after the accident that made them believe her dead. The series has hinted that terrible things happened to her after she went missing, and the promo trailer for “Mine Is a Long and a Sad Tale” promises to make viewers understand whatever endured.

And it isn’t just the promo footage that suggests fans will get a harrowing backstory tonight. Even actress Rachel Skarsten, who plays Alice in Batwoman, believes that viewers will be “horrified” by the character’s history, something she explained during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Whatever trauma motivates Alice to destroy and kill, it’s going to force us to empathize with her — even if we don’t necessarily agree with her coping mechanisms.

Tonight’s episode of Batwoman is going to be dark and serious — and likely difficult to watch. Still, viewers will need to tune in to understand whatever unfolds between Alice and the rest of the Kane family going forward.
