There’s a reason why we all loved Professor Trelawney so much in the Harry Potter series

When it comes to the professors at Hogwarts, we all have our favorites. And one of those favorites is the amazing and brilliant Professor Trelawney.

Professor Trelawney was, seemingly, bad at her job at Hogwarts. But as we learned throughout the series, she played a vital role in Harry’s history and his connection to Lord Voldemort. The woman who predicted the prophecy that would lead to the torture of the Longbottoms and the death of the Potters, Trelawney may not have been the best professor but she was extremely gifted.

What is exciting about Trelawney isn’t necessarily her abilities but rather her very shy nature outside of her moments when she is seeing something she cannot control. Played by the brilliant Emma Thompson in the films, Trelawney being fired by Umbridge and thrown out of Hogwarts is one of the most heart-breaking moments because she doesn’t know where to go until Minera McGonagall comes to her side and lets her stay at Hogwarts.

There is just something about Trelawney that makes me feel as if we need to protect her. Whether it be because we literally do or because she is a character who knows of the future and we need her knowledge, we tend to love Trelawney and her abilities and gifts.

It would be fun to explore a bit more of Trelawney in something, get more of her story that isn’t just through the eyes of Harry Potter but that might be an entire series all on its own. Maybe one just about our favorite professors?
