Season 16 of Grey’s Anatomy has already broken up one long-standing couple. Now that we’ve seen the end of Jackson and Maggie, it’s possible other Seattle doctors paired up romantically will be calling it quits — maybe even as soon as Episode 5.

If you want to look deep enough into it, this week’s episode title “Breathe Again” implies someone is about to become free of something they’ve been carrying around — if not a secret, then possibly a significant other that just isn’t working out.

Bailey and Warren have faced plenty of hardship in the past few seasons largely due to his inability to settle on a career that suits him. An unplanned pregnancy will certainly complicate things, but whether or not it will tear them apart really isn’t clear yet.

Meredith and DeLuca also hit uncommon ground last week, which now seems to be causing Meredith to question whether or not their relationship can last. While there’s nothing wrong with an age difference, or the fact that she used to be his boss, these things could end up hurting their chances of staying together in the long-term.

Richard and Catherine are also in danger of splitting up at some point in the near future. The Meredith Situation has put a lot of strain on their relationship in the past few episodes, and he might already have a new love interest waiting.

But for now, we’re just over here rooting for Amelia and Link. Of all the couples facing hard times this season, they deserve to have the happiest of “endings.”
