Get ready witches: Hocus Pocus sequel in development for Disney+
With how popular Hocus Pocus and the Sanderson sisters are, a sequel in now in the works for Disney+. Here are all the details.
With Halloween just around the corner, everyone is in the mood to watch the absolute classic that is Hocus Pocus. It’s one of only a few non-horror movies available to watch during the spooky season, but that might be changing soon. Disney+ is currently working on a sequel with the help of Workaholics writer and co-producer, Jen D’Angelo.
According to Collider, D’Angelo is not just writing the script, she also has to find a way to get Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy back for this second film. As a fan of the original film and someone always on the lookout for more witchy content, I hope she succeeds. Having those three back to play the Sanderson sisters would be amazing.
Since it’s still early in the development process, there’s no news on when it could be released or what the story will be, but I really hope they use at least parts of the sequel that was written last year by A.W. Jantha.
It would allow old characters to come back and have new kids fight off the three witches. Also… the main character in it is a gay teenage girl who has feelings for another girl at her school, and they go on to fight the witches together! How cool would that be?
But, however this new sequel turns out, it’s sure to have a huge audience. Hocus Pocus may not have been a box office success when it first came out, but now, it’s insanely popular. There are Sanderson sister Funko Pops, T-shirts, bookmarks, mugs, and tons of other merchandise for the film showing how much popularity it’s gained since its premiere.
I, for one, cannot wait to have another movie to watch during Halloween!
