Harry Potter and ship wars: The time when growing up a Potter kid really got interesting
Remember when you would tell someone your favorite Harry Potter ship and then you’d break out in a war over it on the internet? Ah yes, those were the days of fandom bliss.
Those of us who grew up in the thick of the Harry Potter generation also had to come face to face with the first real fandom that had an internet at their command. So, what did that lead to? Well, it meant that many of us were super connected to one another and maybe sometimes we all fought over our favorite relationships within the series.
Sure, if you were a fan of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley, you ended up fine but that didn’t mean you didn’t have a struggle. Those of us who loved Harry and Hermione Granger are still looking to what could have been fondly. But there were definitely fights that broke out among the fans and that’s maybe a reflection of the time and our dedication to these characters.
It’s funny now to look back on our time as Harry Potter fans and think about everything we went through. Remember when we didn’t know what was happening with the series and we all had a stake in this game? Now, we just get to appreciate our favorite characters and read our fic that we wanted despite what actually happened.
But the wars raged and we all suffered at some point but that’s what makes fandom fun, right? The wars we all start?
