Could Deadpool be joining the MCU in the near future?
Ryan Reynolds met with Marvel Studios, and that meeting has fans hoping to see Deadpool join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Could that be on the horizon?
Marvel fans have been clamoring for a Deadpool appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Ryan Reynolds took on the role, and recent events suggest that they might finally get the cameo they’ve been asking for. (Or perhaps a little more than just a cameo?)
According to MovieWeb, Reynolds recently met with Marvel Studios — and fans are really hoping that he and president Kevin Feige discussed Deadpool 3, along with a possible entrance into the MCU. After all, while we’ve seen Deadpool mix with the X-Men, we’ve never seen him team up with the Avengers. And who wouldn’t want to see Deadpool meet Tom Holland’s Spider-Man or Chris Hemsworth’s Thor?
Reynolds wasn’t incredibly forthcoming about what was discussed during the meeting, so it’s probably safe to assume any Deadpool updates are currently under wraps. Reynolds did joke about auditioning for “Anthony Stark,” though — and to be honest, watching him mimic Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark would be nothing short of hilarious. (Get on that, Marvel.)
Chances are that Feige and Reynolds were discussing the next Deadpool installment, one that fans are hoping remains rated R now that it’s in Marvel Studios’ hands. And if Deadpool does maintain his reputation for being explicit, it begs the question as to whether he’d fit into the MCU at all.
There’s also the question of what role a character like Deadpool would play during Phase 4 or Phase 5. Of course, plot details about the upcoming films — and overarching theme — of the MCU’s future are sparse. But while we’d love to see him interact with the other Avengers, it’s hard to imagine him actually fighting side by side with them — especially when threats need to be taken seriously.
If we do see the merc join the MCU, it probably won’t be for a while. If anything, Deadpool would probably make an appearance alongside the X-Men — but things don’t look promising on that front either. While mutants joining the MCU would open a world of possibilities for the franchise, it’s already been confirmed that we won’t see them for a while. (Seriously, just look at how long New Mutants is taking to come out…)
