What is the deal with the lack of a music program in the Harry Potter series?
Sure, the kids at Hogwarts have more important things to do but why were there no real musical instruments or programs in the Harry Potter series other than the frogs?
We know that the kids in the Harry Potter series do sing. We saw it when they sang the Hogwarts song with those frogs. But why were there, seemingly, no other musical instruments at Hogwarts? While the kids had other things to worry about, there was still something that could have been done creatively couldn’t there be?
The series surprisingly doesn’t have many classes that are not geared specifically towards them learning magic and nothing really outside that. It’s interesting because the series itself has inspired so many of us to explore careers in writing and other creative fields for the series itself to not really have that aspect within it? It just doesn’t seem to fit.
I think that part of the problem is the different school system maybe. In America, music and theater is ingrained in our lives from a young age through school but that doesn’t mean we don’t seek it out in other places as well. Or maybe it’s the same way in Great Britain and Hogwarts is just an outlier.
Whatever the case may be, I wish there was some element of the arts within the Harry Potter series that wasn’t just that very brief glimpse into the choir singing to welcome the new school year in for everyone at school. But who knows, maybe we’ll learn even more about Hogwarts and the classes there later.
