The Walking Dead spinoff reveals first full trailer at NYCC

Watch the first full trailer for the newest spinoff of The Walking Dead that will air in the spring of 2020.

The Walking Dead universe is expanding, again.

Earlier in the year it was announced that a second spinoff of the popular zombie franchise would be launching  in 2020, joining the flagship series and spin-off Fear the Walking Dead. And over the summer the show, which so far is untitled and is just being referred to as TWD3 by fans, started filming in Virginia.

But at this year’s New York Comic-Con, the stars of the new spinoff attended a combined The Walking Dead universe panel and revealed the first trailer for TWD3. 

The trailer for TWD3 gives a lot of clues about the setting for this new spinoff and it shows a perspective that is quite different from any that have previously been explored in The Walking Dead or Fear The Walking Dead thus far. Both of those existing series are centered on a small group of people that survived the apocalypse and have been looking for a home and a community ever since.

But that doesn’t seem as though it’ll be the case here.

The Story

The trailer for TWD3 shows some type of large city that’s been relatively unscathed by the apocalypse. There are more than 9000 people in this city and it appears they are living like most of humanity did before the zombies arrived. The main characters are shown going to school, playing sports, and living much the say that teenagers would have lived in the past.

But the world outside those walls is something new too, based on the amount of decay that’s seen in clips in the trailer. It will be interesting to see how young adults that have never had to face walkers or the outside world will handle themselves in a world that’s more dangerous than they think.

The Cast

The narrative of TWD3 will apparently focus on a small group of young adults who leave the safety of the city where they have grown up to explore the outside world. From the trailer, it seems like two of them are also looking for their father who left their community for some reason and hasn’t come back.

The protagonists for this spinoff of The Walking Dead are:

Alexa Mansour as Hope

Aliyah Royale as Iris

Nicolas Cantu as Elton

Hal Cumpston as Silas

Annet Mahendru as Huck

Nico Tortorella as Felix

WE don’t know much more about them than that, just yet – but it’s enough to get the speculation wheels turning.

TWD3 will debut in the spring of 2020. Typically, Fear The Walking Dead starts each new season in the spring as well. But with three different shows set in The Walking Dead universe airing throughout the year fans  may be able to stay immersed in the world of the show – in some form or other – all year long.
