7 things we learned during Disney’s Frozen 2 press event
The animators created a VR version of Arendelle
The first Frozen gave audiences glimpses into Arendelle, but because so much of Frozen 2 takes place within the city, animators had to think in terms of a much larger scope. The group actually constructed a city plan, mapping out structures, rivers, and roads that could easily be translated to a VR headset for tangible exploration. Additions like the clock tower and port might have been foundational anchors in the first feature, but they took on added history and a “sense of place,” according to Jenkins.
Jenkins also went on to say that nearly every building in Arendelle received a renovation because the camera would be focusing on things more intently.
Enhanced tools created after the first film allowed for more details to come through with dazzling clarity. You’ll definitely want to keep an eye on certain buildings during the movie for animator in-jokes and other Scandanivan details imprinted onto everything.
