Xbox Live Gold offerings for October were just announced. Check out what you can download and play for free this month if you become a member.

Honestly, anything is better than the Xbox Live Gold offerings for September. Maybe we were hoping just a bit too hard to fly through September just to see what we could get next.

Below are the offerings for October, the systems they’re on, and the dates they’re available to download:

  • Tembo the Badass Elephant (October 1-31 on Xbox One)
  • Friday the 13th: The Game (October 16 to November 15 on Xbox One)
  • Disney Bolt (October 1-15 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One)
  • Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge (October 16-31 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One)

Check out the announcement video for the Xbox Live Gold offerings below:

Off the bat, these feel a bit better than the September games, but Microsoft just doesn’t seem to be aiming for the rafters like Sony.

Tembo the Badass Elephant is a fun game with a retro feel (think Sonic the Hedgehog). Save Shell City from an invading army by trampling things and pretending you’re Stampy. It’s not a terribly difficult game, but it will satisfy your side-scrolling platform game ache you may have.

Friday the 13th: The Game is just a given for this time of the year. If you want to get in the Halloween mood, you should get this game for the last half of the month. Join a group of eight players and try your hand at survival — or get randomly selected to control Jason and stalk the rest of the players down.

Before you make it there, you can enjoy a lighthearted adventure with Disney Bolt. Remember that 2008 animated film starring Miley Cyrus and John Travolta? No? Just me?

Anyway, the game is set in the TV show in the movie. You play as Penny and Bolt, trying to save Penny’s dad from the evil Dr. Calico. Will you find a bonus level where you can play as Rhino the hamster? Probably not, but we can hope.

Lastly, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge. If you’re in the mood for an action-adventure game with ninjas, check this one out. Play as master ninja Ryu Hayabusa or a handful of new playable characters. This time around, Ryu has a deadly curse threatening to destroy him.
