AHS: 1984 episode 2 preview and live stream
By Tina Wargo
With its ninth season officially kicked off, we’re ready for whatever scary stories, campfire crushes, and salacious slashers AHS: 1984 has to dish out in episode two!
It’s been days since the premiere episode of AHS: 1984, but there’s been no shortage on the internet of conspiracies, questions, opinions, and GIFs from those of us who watched and just couldn’t get it out of our heads.
The first episode, which introduced our sometimes anxious, usually drunk, and always a little too sexy gang of counselors, campers, and staff alike, quickly set us up for a season of debauchery. We’re dealing with a new-girl virgin, a failed Olympian, a comically well-endowed “activities director,” some amped up teens, and a camp owner whose faith in the Lord will keep them all out of trouble. Maybe.

In the promo for this week’s episode — which is titled “Mr. Jingles,” a shoutout to everyone’s top two serial murderers of this season — promises to have even the bravest of viewers questioning whether they’re ready to leave their feet dangling off any ledge ever again. And not for nothing: with camp director Margaret Booth being warned not to open the camp, the counselors divided amongst themselves in believing the rumors of a killer on the loose, and an entire camp-full of kids on their way for a fun-and-hopefully-not-murder-filled summer, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
The official synopsis, which reads more like the subtitle of a pulp horror novella, offers us no solace, though that’s to be expected (and, honestly, is kind of a gracious gift to those of us who long for endlessly cliff-hangingly watchable television).
"“Darkness descends upon the camp. Although it’s lights out, evil has no curfew.”"
Somehow, only one episode in, we’re already wondering how else this could possibly build into something bigger, wilder, and scarier. Will Mr. Jingles really come back for Margaret with a vengeance? Will everyone finally believe Brooke, who is, again, only one episode in, already being chased by two serial slashers? Will Montana and Trevor the Activities Director get into more lake-adjacent trouble?
Only time, and one-hour, deliciously camp-fueled installments will tell. But of course, as is the rule in any horror movie and the learned philosophy among any watcher of Ryan Murphy shows: Never, ever ask if it can get worse. It will. Watch along with us as it does.
