The second trailer for the final season of Mr. Robot promises the long-awaited showdown between Elliot and Whiterose that we’ve all been waiting for.

Hacker drama Mr. Robot has a lot of things to handle before it logs off forever later this year. The series must wrap up several years’ worth of complicated stories, including Elliot’s attempt to undo the 5/9 hack that pretty much started the whole show. There’s also his fractured relationship with his own psyche – in the form of Mr. Robot – as well as the return of drug dealer Fernando Vera, Dom’s new status as a double agent, and the revelation that Philip Price is actually Angela’s father.

But there’s also Elliot’s ongoing war against Whiterose, the mysterious and influential figure who heads the Dark Army and may or may not be trying to make time travel a thing. Both the Dark Army and Whiterose were once allies of Elliot’s, but…not so much anymore.

The latest trailer for Mr. Robot’s final season teases a confrontation between Elliot and Whiterose, but given how much this show likes to play with the idea of reality, we have no idea whether or not this meeting is something that will actually happen or if it takes place in Elliot’s mind.

But before that there are quick shots of trouble brewing in Manhattan as the post-hack world deteriorates further, including a pensive Price, a concerned Angela, a blink and you’ll miss it shot of Tyrell Wellick, who is still the likely wildcard of this story.

The first trailer for Season 4 hinted at a dark final season for the show, a feeling that this clip backs up in spades with creepy voiceovers about how Whitrose will destroy the world, and possibly kill Elliot and whoever he’s talking to – which could be anybody from Darlene to Tyrell to Mr. Robot himself.

“She can’t hide from what’s coming for her!” he shouts.

And neither, it would appear, can we. But whatever that end turns out to be – for Whiterose, for Elliot, for the show itself – there’s no way we can possibly be ready for it.
