Harry Potter and the modern era: How the series would adapt for 2019

The Harry Potter series is very much a product of the time in which it was written so what would happen if the series was adapted for modern times with our current technologies?

Harry Potter was born in 1980 and we met him in 1991. So, for many of us, we spent the series realizing that everything we were seeing was happening in the 90s. You know, before the internet took over and everyone had a cellphone.

So, fast forward to 2019, and now we’d experience a very different kind of Harry Potter. Sure, in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, they’re in the modern era but we didn’t get to explore much of their lives as students and so who knows how much of the Hogwarts experience has changed with technology.

Is that part of the series? That technology doesn’t exist? Because if that’s the case, then we don’t have to bring the characters into a modern setting at all but it is a source of confusion for me about how Hogwarts exists now that everyone is constantly plugged in in every aspect of their lives.

You’re telling me a bunch of teenagers are going to leave their cellphones and social media platforms at home because they’re going to study magic? I’d like to see how many cellphones the professors have in boxes because a student sneaks it in with some sort of internet router.

So, is Hogwarts going to have Netflix? Get Wi-Fi for the kids in their downtime? Or are we still going to see the Hogwarts we knew and loved from Harry’s time? It’d certainly be interesting to explore.

Next. Here is why the idea of ‘banning’ Harry Potter books is still baffling to fans. dark
