Here is why the idea of ‘banning’ Harry Potter books is still baffling to fans

How is Harry Potter still being banned when it has been a part of our cultural zeitgeist for over twenty years? Pretty sure kids know what it is at this point.

Being a fan of Harry Potter means that we all probably fought against someone about the series. Whether it was our parents or families, we still had to fight to read about this wizard and it doesn’t really make that much sense.

According to the Catholic school that just banned Harry Potter in 2019 (yeah, you read that right), the worry is that you can summon a demon reading it. Again, you read that right.

Part of the problem is that these people see “magic” and instantly think the worst and don’t realize that the Potter series taught so many of us what it means to feel wanted and to have friends. They look at the negative aspect of the general idea of the thing and think that applies to the series.

It’s not a good look for those who are banning it without really understanding the series and it isn’t fair to those kids who have to either hide their love of it or not read it at all. There’s something special about reading the Harry Potter series and if you think you can conjure a demon with this book then you have no idea what J.K. Rowling created with this world.

There are no demons anyway. Are you mistaking Harry Potter with The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina? Because I’m pretty sure the actual devil is in that one so maybe worry about that.
