Dementors! The fear that the fictional guards of Azkaban still bring to fans

Okay who among us is not afraid of the dementors? We all are, but why is that? They are fictional characters that just suck out your soul. Normal, right? Well…

Sure, the dementors are fictional beings but that doesn’t mean we’re not afraid of them! They are the guards of Azkaban, those who suck the soul out of the prisoners, and they don’t care who is in their path.

Many of Harry Potter’s happy memories were lost to the dementors and all he could do was sit by until he managed to escape. What’s wild is that even now, when we’re all adults having red the series when we were younger, that fear still remains.

Seeing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, there is a part when dementors are nearby and, for me, I felt as if the entire theater got colder. I don’t think it did but I feared that I was going to be attacked and no matter what I did, I wouldn’t feel happy again.

Which, I think, is because that’s what we’ve come to know with them. They’re these creatures we’ve always feared, beings that are meant to torment us and hurt us. So, even as adults, there’s this underlying notion that they’re going to try and take away something from us even though we know they’re not really there.

At the end of the day, I don’t care whether or not a dementor is real. If I see one in a room, I’m running.
