WandaVision

I don’t want to sound biased, but out of all the projects Disney+ has announced, I’m excited for this one most of all. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany are set to reprise their roles in WandaVision, a series giving audiences more of Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, and the VIsion in a way that looks all kinds of weird.

Show director Matt Shakman and head writer Jac Schaeffer debuted a mock-up trailer that didn’t give any glimpses of the story but set a tone for the series. Footage of Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore from The Dick Van Dyke Show is played, altered, and interrupted, to show that the kind, happy world of the 1950s sitcom might be anything but. A poster, released later, shows the characters similarly dressed in 1950s costumes. Fans quickly deduced the series will draw from the comic series House of M, wherein Wanda creates a fairytale existence for the Avengers and X-Men as she struggles to hold her own mind together.

It’s unclear how all of that will work considering Disney’s acquisition of the X-Men. It was announced that both Randall Park and Kat Dennings will be in the series, reprising their roles from Ant-Man and the Wasp and Thor, respectively, and that Kathryn Hahn will be playing a “nosey neighbor.” Either way, give me Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen in sweater sets!
