Encore!

Most people left the Disney+ panel talking about the High School Musical series and its mouthful of a title I refuse to write out. But instead of that Glee-inspired throwback, I decided to go with a small series that looks incredibly emotional. Hosted by Kristen Bell, Encore! is a reality series following different schools and their former theater kids who have now become adults. Each of the adults is asked to put on an encore performance of their former high school musical.

The trailer, though spouting an incredibly cheesy needle drop, looks like it’ll punch me straight in the feels. Several of the people who will be taking the stage again have fond memories of their high school experiences. One participant talks about going to New York to become a professional singer, only to now have her kids be her top priority. Another scene shows a man who became paralyzed late in life and how he hopes this performance will allow him to feel included.

I’m a sucker for reality content, particularly any that is based on the stage or screen, so this right up my alley. It looks like it’s going to be great to watch everyone realize how hard singing and dancing is now that you’re not 17 years old, while also rekindling old friendships.
