Ms. Marvel

Official confirmation of a Ms. Marvel series came as part of a trio of Marvel-centric titles announced with no set release date. (The others were Moon Knight and She-Hulk.) These look to be prepped for development in mid- to late-2020, but we’re still super hyped.

For the uninitiated, Ms. Marvel is the alter ego for the first Muslim superhero, the 16-year-old Kamala Khan. Since her solo debut in 2014, Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel has inspired young women, particularly of color, with her relatability. With Disney taking its sweet time to develop female superhero stories — and a woman of color still not being a lead in any of Marvel’s features — now is a great time for a Ms. Marvel story.

It also starts to lay the groundwork for what many saw as a bit of pandering with Avengers: Endgame: the desire to create an all-female network of superheroines. Since Netflix’s Marvel series are all done, now is the perfect time for Disney start creating its own universe of television shows themed to their Marvel properties, and to focus more specifically on the bevy of female characters whose stories have yet to be told.

No doubt we’ll be seeing Kamala Khan and She-Hulk pairing up for some adventures down the line. (Please don’t spam me with comments about why that can’t happen. I’m a terrible comic book person.) Either way, sign me up for more lady superheroes.
