Diary of a Female President

Now that Jane the Virgin is over, I needed to know what actress, director, and all-around wonderful lady Gina Rodriguez would do next. Earlier this year, she announced plans to work with the Disney Company on Diary of a Female President.

Set to launch in January, Diary of a Female President is a 10-episode series following the life of a 12-year-old Cuban-American girl named Elena (played by Tess Romero) who aspires to make it to the Oval Office. Using her diary entries as narrations, the series jumps back and forth in time to show both Elena as a child and the adult woman she becomes, played by Gina Rodriguez.

Initial footage of the series was released and it looks like it perfectly captures the tone for Disney fans and Jane the Virgin fans. Rodriguez and Romero looked utterly enchanting and in our currently disorganized world, it’s gonna be a balm to the soul to watch this and dream of something better. Hopefully, the series will take a chance to use the story to discuss real-world issues, in the vein of Netflix’s One Day at a Time. Either way, we get to see Gina Rodriguez as the President!
