Harry Potter and the extended universe: What is the wizarding world like in other parts of the world?
In the world of Harry Potter, we know what the wizarding world is like in both America and the United Kingdom but what is it like in other places in the world?
Harry Potter grew up in the United Kingdom, going to school at Hogwarts and so we, as readers, know the wizarding world in the United Kingdom better than anywhere else. So, with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, we learned a bit more about the United States and their wizarding dynamic but what about everywhere?
Sure, we’re getting glimpses throughout the Fantastic Beasts movies but it would be interesting to explore an entirely new world in the wizarding world without having it tie back to Dumbledore and Hogwarts.
Not that it is a bad thing, we obviously love Hogwarts, but it feels like everything has to go back to Hogwarts when there has to be wizarding schools around the world that do not have a direct link to the school. And clearly students all think their school is the best because that’s Queenie and Tina said when they were talking about Ilvermorny to Newt.
Everyone has pride for where they went to school and the wizarding world in which they exist in and it would be nice to explore those areas and the wizards that inhabit them without it going back to Dumbledore and his mess with Grindelwald and Voldemort. Sure, it includes the entire wizarding world but it feels very focused as a Hogwarts problem that then becomes everyone else’s problem.
Can’t we just go to the wizarding school in China and explore it without them?
