Tom Holland’s comments on the Spider-Man debacle have us all in tears

Tom Holland finally broke his silence on the recent news that Spider-Man will no longer be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his words made us even more emotional than we already were.

The internet has positively exploded with the news that Spider-Man will no longer be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the result of a failure for Sony and Disney to reach a deal that both parties deemed acceptable. Given how heavily Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is immersed in the MCU, it’s expected that fans would be upset about Disney and Sony parting ways.

And the actor finally commented on the debacle while at this year’s D23 Expo, with words likely intended to ease fans’ disappointment. Unfortunately, Holland may have just made us emotional all over again. (It really shouldn’t come as a surprise. Everything he does leaves us with all the feelings.)

At the end of the panel for his upcoming movie Onward, Holland mentioned the Spider-Man incident, telling the audience, “Hey everyone, it’s been a crazy week. But i want you all to know from the bottom of my heart that I love you 3,000.”

This was a bit much for Marvel fans, most of whom still aren’t over Tony Stark’s sacrifice during Avengers: Endgame. We weren’t ready to say farewell to another fan-favorite character so soon after, and we really weren’t prepared to have that phrase thrown at us again.

“Basically, we’ve made five great movies,” Holland also said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life. It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”

We’re glad that Holland is taking the news better than most of us are, and it’s nice to know he’ll be remaining in the role of Spider-Man. (We really didn’t need another reboot.) Still, it’s hard to imagine how Holland will be able to continue his Spider-Man’s story without the MCU being involved at all. The future will indeed be different.

But until a non-MCU Spider-Man movie is actually released, we’ll be holding onto that “who knows what the future holds” piece of his statement. After all, the future could bring about a reconciliation between Disney and Sony. And that would honestly be the best-case scenario for everyone involved.
