Ron vs. the Horcrux

So putting aside the weird naked-Harry-and-Hermione snogging moment that the movie makers added to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Ron’s defeat of Voldemort’s locket Horcrux is a pretty satisfying moment. For one, it gives him another heroic moment — something that supporting characters don’t always get, even in a series like Harry Potter, where many of them play hugely important roles.

But this moment also shows Ron triumphing over his insecurities and the Horcrux’s hold on him — a combination that leads him to walk out on Hermione and Harry while they’re searching for the remaining pieces of Voldemort’s soul. The locket he destroys was feeding on his emotions, causing him to doubt himself and the people he cares about, and it’s definitely a happy moment when he overcomes all of that and puts an end to it.

And we won’t lie, we also love seeing Ron make up with both Harry and Hermione. The Golden Trio breaking up was one of the saddest parts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and watching them all own up to how much they care about one another was a highlight of this part of the film. (On top of that, Hermione’s reaction to Ron’s return was spot on — and Rupert and Emma captured it perfectly.)
