The Orville

Last but certainly not least is a sci-fi sitcom that began as a Star Trek parody but evolved into a lovingly crafted series full of heart, humor, and more sci-fi goodness than you can shake a stick at. Created by lifelong Star Trek fan and veteran comedy writer Seth Rogen, The Orville follows Ed Mercer, a Starfleet – *ahem* Planetary Union – officer who jumps at the chance to command his own starship, only to find out that his first officer is his ex-wife Kelly.

Like any good Star Trek series, an eccentric crew rounds out the cast, and the group of walking cliches finds themselves on all sorts of galactic adventures. The Orville feels very similar to Legends of Tomorrow in many ways – the most obvious being the prevalence of the cast consisting of a captain and their crew.

However, Legends and The Orville share the same bright, exploratory spirit, the same love of wonder, and the same willingness to break convention and poke fun at themselves. Many fans of The Orville like to think of it as an honorary Star Trek series – a sentiment with which we agree.

If The Orville sounds like the show for you, you can find it on Fox Now, Hulu, iTunes, and Amazon Prime Video.
