Disney+ is already planning to reboot four iconic Fox franchises

In addition to the gaggle of Fox TV shows Disney acquired when it purchased the company earlier this year, it appears that even more Fox content will be featured on Disney+.

Continuing Disney’s recent trend of taking beloved ’90s classics and beating them like a dead horse until every last dollar is squeezed out of them, it looks like Disney+ will now be turning its sights on Fox film franchises.

Disney+ is already set to have an impressive catalog of content, including five new Marvel shows, all of Disney’s classic movies, and a vast majority of Fox’s movies and shows. if that wasn’t enough, however, recent news has broken that Disney is planning to reboot some of Fox’s most beloved franchises. Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Cheaper by the Dozen are all getting Disney+ remakes for the new platform.

Disney has received a lot of flack in recent months for their shameless live-action reboots, and it seems like they don’t plan on slowing down any time soon when it comes to regurgitating old content.

It’s no secret that Home Alone is one of the most successful and well-loved Christmas movies of all time, but it seems like Disney can’t just let a good thing go. To us, rebooting a franchise like Home Alone for a “new generation” of viewers is mind-bogglingly unmercenary — the films are classics for a reason. We’re having difficulty picturing Home Alone without Macaulay Culkin’s iconic portrayal. It’s the kind of “lightning in a bottle” magic that just can’t be replicated, no matter how much money Disney throws at it.

Perhaps an even grosser offense, however, is the “reimagining’ of Night at the Museum. Not only is the most recent film barely even five years old, but it feels downright insulting that Disney would want to remake yet another iconic Robin Williams project.

There used to be a time when Disney was heralded for its creativity, imagination, and sense of wonder, but if this new slate of Disney+ projects is any indication, that era has come to an end. Though we’ll always have a place in our hearts for the lovingly crafted classics that used to define Disney as a brand, each new reboot is slow chipping away at our goodwill.
