Debut author Troy Carrol Bucher is releasing Lies of Descent this month, and his first novel will deliver readers a story of two warring civilizations bonding together to face ruthless gods. The Fallen Gods’ War left the continent of Draegora forgotten, and those who remain there are feared enforcers of the law.

The main characters of Lies of Descent, Riam and Nola, are both descendants of Draegora — although this news comes as quite a surprise to them. Once it’s discovered, however, they’re shipped off to serve in the Draegoran regiments. Assuming they live through their training, they’ll become tasked with enforcing the laws of their kingdom, punishing and even executing the Esharii tribespeople who break them.

Neither of them is given a choice in the matter, though Riam is happy to escape his abusive household and protect others. Nola, on the other hand, wants nothing more than to forget about her blood and return to her old life.

With magic, godly abilities, conflicted main characters, and some intriguing politics, Lies of Descent is sure to be exactly what readers of high fantasy are looking for in a novel. It hits shelves on August 20, and it offers almost 500 pages of adventure, action, and betrayal.
