10 August SFF book releases that will end your summer reading on a high note
Of Ice and Shadows by Audrey Coulthurst
Audrey Coulthurst’s Of Fire and Stars was highly praised following its release back in 2016, and the book’s sequel is shaping up to be equally as popular among readers of young adult fantasy stories. Of Ice and Shadows continues the love story between Mare and Denna, all while throwing new elements of Coulthurst’s magical world into the mix.
In Of Ice and Shadows, the two princesses venture to a new kingdom called Zumorda, intent on finding a way for Denna to control her powers. While she trains there, Mare plans to serve as an ambassador between their kingdom and Zumorda. It’s seemingly the perfect plan.
The girls’ plans go awry, however, when a border town is attacked as soon as they reach Zumorda. Not only does this force Mare to take her role as an ambassador far more seriously than she anticipated, but it brings Denna’s abilities to the queen’s attention — and although the queen’s intentions might not be the best, Denna is left with no choice but to train under her watch.
The newest installment to Coulthurst’s series raises the stakes for our main characters, leaving them to face a whole new set of dangers in a foreign land. The suspense and romance will make Of Ice and Shadows the perfect summer read. It officially releases on August 13, and it’s something fans of the previous book will want to get their hands on ASAP.
