Summer is nearing its end, but that doesn’t mean the reading year is over just yet. There are plenty of SFF stories hitting shelves in August, and they’ll keep readers absorbed no matter what their plans for the rest of the summer are.

August has arrived, and that means summer is nearing its end. But whether you’re rushing to the beach to soak up the last of the heat or hiding by the air conditioner and waiting for fall to arrive, you should probably grab a book or three to keep you occupied. And for those who prefer stories involving magic and made-up lands, there are quite a few options to choose from.

Quite a few well-loved fantasy novels are getting sequels this month, including R.F. Kuang’s The Poppy War, Mary Pearson’s Dance of Thieves, Audrey Coulthurst’s Of Ice and Shadows, and Makiia Lucier’s Isle of Blood and Stone. Marie Brennan is also releasing a spin-off novel to her The Memoirs of Lady Trent series, an exciting addition to the world readers have fallen in love with over the years.

There are also several SFF debuts headed our way, including Troy Carrol Bucher’s Lies of Descent and Erin A. Craig’s House of Salt and Sorrows. And, while there aren’t many big science-fiction releases slated for August, Kameron Hurley’s bizarre collection of short stories is sure to make up for the shortage.

Overall, August is a promising month for fantasy fans, especially those who love stories set beneath the sea, or ones that focus on warring civilizations and their politics. In particular, these 10 SFF releases are sure to keep you flipping the pages. And with so many exciting stories to read, it’ll be September before you know it.
