The Swamp Thing series finale is finally here. We were ready for a lot more Swampy stories, but the end has arrived — and we’re definitely not ready.

We’re already drafting various postmortem articles, lists, and explainer pieces because there was a lot to dissect in the Swamp Thing series finale. We’re still denying that the entire series has wrapped, so perhaps that explains our feverish rants. Nonetheless, Swamp Thing deserves all the reviews and analytical writeups. After all the foreshadowing in the comic-inspiredThe Anatomy Lesson” episode last week, we can expect a lot of resolutions and some bittersweet cliffhangers.

During the penultimate episode, Abby Arcane (portrayed by Crystal Reed), Liz Tremayne (portrayed by Maria Sten), and a glowing blue Daniel Cassidy (portrayed Ian Ziering) saved a dying Swamp Thing (portrayed by Derek Mears). The episode gave us a lot of resolutions, revealing how heinous Avery Sunderland (portrayed Will Patton) actually is and what really happened to Alec Holland (portrayed by Andy Bean). With a title like “Loose Ends,” the premise of the series finale seems straightforward.

In an episode that will tie up some loose ends and give us a lot more swamp-related stories to pine over, we can still expect a lot of action, according to Warner Bros. Television Division’s synopsis:

"“The swamp fights back in the season finale. Still reeling with the revelation of the truth behind his existence, Swamp Thing goes on the offensive against Ellery’s mercenary team hunting him. Meanwhile, Abby comes up against Jason Woodrue who’s crossed the line to save his wife’s life. And as Liz tries to help Dan Cassidy escape the curse of the Blue Devil and leave Marais once and for all, Avery Sunderland attempts to find a resolution to his relationship with Lucilia and Matt Cable.”"

Ending the series during a characteristic existential crisis, at least Swamp Thing will end his on-screen saga in a fight against Nathan Ellery (portrayed by Michael Beach) and his horde of Conclave pawns.  In a series defined by its horror elements, for once, we’re not terrified for Swamp Thing’s safety.

OK, maybe we’re still a little scared for Swampy’s well-being. However, we’re more worried about Avery’s “attempts to find a resolution.” Though he has a fleeting change of heart in “Long Walk Home,” he’s a dangerous man who only becomes more dangerous when he doesn’t get his way. We know Lucilia (portrayed by Jennifer Beals) and Matt Cable (portrayed by Henderson Wade) have unique ways of defending themselves, but we just don’t trust Avery.

Any potential conflict between Avery, Lucilia, and Matt would conclude the series with two fight scenes. Nonetheless, we’re still hoping Warner Bros. or another network will save the canceled showThe amount of love, respect, and work the cast and crew has put into this series shows in every scene. With so many new and classic stories left to tell, it would be a shame if the award-nominated show didn’t get a chance to blossom into multiple seasons and spin-offs.
