Harry Potter and the no good, rotten summer that he spent with Dudley
Most of Harry Potter’s summers weren’t great but there was something particularly bad about the summer he spent at home in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
No matter what, Harry Potter had a bad summer when he was with the Dursleys. There was no doubt about it. But there was something about that summer after the Tri-Wizard that seemed to hit Harry harder than ever before. Maybe it was him still struggling with the death of Cedric or maybe something else but he very clearly was having a harder time.
Maybe that’s why he got in trouble. Sure, we know he was being targeted but even before then, Harry wasn’t exactly having the best of times. He was trying his hardest to keep it together and cope but not getting the help that he needed. And even when he went with Sirius and to Number 12 Grimmauld Place, he still was told half-truths because they were trying to protect him.
In the end, it might have been the worst summer of all. He struggled with his own thoughts, felt alone, and didn’t have anyone to protect him until it was absolutely necessary. Harry Potter needed someone to look out for him and to talk to him but, instead, everyone just thought they knew better and let him be.
So, were all the other summers worse? No. But they weren’t great either and it’d be nice to know that if now, as Harry is an adult, he at least has better memories when it comes to the season.
