Culturess sat down with Agents of SHIELD stars Chloe Bennet and Jeff Ward at an SDCC press round-table to discuss Daisy’s journey, and their idea for a possible spin-off.

As Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD prepares to wrap up its run in season 7 next year, it’s natural that both the cast and fans are busy looking backward and forward at the same time.

Whether that means reflecting on the many different journeys the characters of SHIELD have gone on with one another, or anticipating the ways in which we could possibly see these familiar faces again someday, the discussion is necessarily bittersweet.

Because it’s certainly possible that when the credits roll on season 7, that very well could be the last time we see these agents, or the actors that portrayed them. But that doesn’t mean the journey wasn’t worth it.

Culturess got the chance to catch up with Agents of SHIELD stars Chloe Bennett and Jeff Ward, who play Daisy Johnson and Deke Shaw, during a press roundtable interview at San Diego Comic-Con. The pair, who laughed and joked throughout the brief session, have the sort of easy camaraderie that makes it obvious

Bennet’s Daisy has been one of the key faces of SHIELD since the series premiered back in 2013 and her character went by Skye. She’s been on quite the journey over the past six seasons, learning her true identity as Daisy Johnson, discovering her powers as Quake, and becoming a fierce leader and fighter in her own right.

And Daisy’s journey has spawned a similar evolution for Bennet as an actress.

“They gave me no warning,” Bennet explained. “I definitely didn’t audition to play the character I’m playing now, or have been playing for a while. It’s been kind of heavy, to be honest. I. I definitely auditioned more for the Deke-esque type character, and it parallels my life in a weird way. Skye and Daisy’s really come into her own and really accepted her power.”

“The line that kind of has made the most sense [about the situation] since Day 1, cause this was in my audition scene and it was in the first scene I shot on SHIELD and it was, “With great power comes a lot of weird crap that you are not prepared to deal with”, Ben That sentence kind of completely brings everything together in terms of the show. The struggle of being lost, finding your power, and what does that mean, whether it’s a literal power or your power as a woman as a person as a young lady as someone who’s different.”

“So [the show is] the journey of finding herself and finding her family and coming to terms with things, becoming a woman,” Bennet said. “[And that] has been something that’s obviously very personal for me and I feel like I’ve been on the same thing.”

Given that SHIELD will officially wrap up following its seventh season next year, both Bennet and Ward took the time to speculate a bit about what a Daisy-centric spinoff-might look like.

“It’d definitely be with Deke,” Ward says with a laugh. “And it’d probably be about how they were married and having a great time and just, like, retired and kicking it on a beach.”

“They would have lots of money and it would just be a fantasy show where they do like a lot of bungee jumping,” he continued.

“It’s like a YouTube vlog,” Bennet added with a laugh.

“Exactly!” Ward enthused. “Have you seen like Will Smith’s bucket list show? It’d be like that, only with Deke and Daisy.”
