Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD review: Can an old face win?
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD brings out more of Sarge’s true form this week. Meanwhile, Izel takes Mack and Elena to an ancient temple to open her gateway.
We are down to the last two weeks of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. How do things ramp up from here?
Well, Izel fools Elena into giving away Benson’s name in regard to the ancient temple where the monoliths need to be taken. Thankfully, when they bring Benson in, he doesn’t give away the locations right away.
She opens up the gravitonium device to see what Benson fears. It’s his husband, who calls him out on pulling the plug. No matter how much Elena and Mack yell for him not to believe, you have to imagine it would be hard to believe otherwise if you were in his shoes.
Mack and Yo-Yo try to pull one over on Izel, but they’re dragged to the temple anyway because she needs them to help recreate the monoliths. What could possibly go wrong? Apparently, their fear is Flint — from the future.
On the ground, SHIELD is trying to find a way to stop Izel from inhabiting bodies while trying to crack Sarge, who seems to be getting stronger. May can’t crack him; she has an angry heart-to-heart with Daisy out in the hall, and Daisy tries her hand at it.
Sarge has a lot of anger bubbling under his skin, and Daisy just wants to unleash it, to see what he really is. She has her own issues going on, as Simmons points out. Anytime she feels pain or loses someone, she runs. That’s why she went after Fitz with Simmons after Coulson died.
That’s why she hasn’t opened the letter Coulson gave her until now. Kudos to Chloe Bennet’s acting in the scene where she reads the letter Coulson wrote her.
And then she snaps Sarge’s neck because she wants to see what he truly is. He’s… much stronger. I do enjoy his swagger. You have to appreciate Clark Gregg enjoying his new role on Agents of SHIELD, man.
And then he calls her Skye. And gives a Coulson speech. That’s… going to be an issue.
Post-Credits Stinger
The Chronicoms are still on the hunt! They want to create a new planet — but is it through regaining their old one or starting a new one?
Badass Moment of the Week
Daisy snapping Sarge’s neck was surprising to say the least.
Best One-Liner
“I meant some emotional honesty, not murder!”Simmons yells at Daisy.
I didn’t mention Deke’s tagging along with everything Fitz Simmons says. It was kind of annoying — and not in a cute grandson kind of way. But at least it didn’t happen for too much of the episode. And, hey, he comes through in the end!
Next week is a double-header for Agents of SHIELD — and the sixth season finale. Everything is on the line. Can our team win out against Izel? Or will we be left with a year-long cliffhanger?
