Swamp Thing season 1 episode 9 live stream: Watch online

Avery and Jason plantnapped Swamp Thing, and the synopsis for “The Anatomy Lesson” has us thinking of an iconic comic saga.

With only two episodes of Swamp Thing left, there is little chance that we’ll get a happy conclusion to the series. It’s unlikely we’ll receive news of the show’s rescinded cancellation or  see a season finale that gives Abby and Alec a happy arc for a change. Grim stories are part of the reason we love this fandom so dearly, and following the ambush from “Long Walk Home,” episode nine could draw some inspiration from a noteworthy comic book saga.

Yes, we’re talking about Saga of The Swamp Thing. The title of this week’s episode alone is reminiscent of Alan Moore’s iconic tale by the same name. “The Anatomy Lesson” is a required lesson amongst the Swamp Thing fandom, and for good reason. Without going into grave detail (in case you haven’t read it), it ignites a critical turning point in Swampy’s character development.

Continuing from the captive specimen narrative last week, even the synopsis for “The Anatomy Lesson” suggests more comic accuracy is underway:

"“After being captured and taken to a Conclave facility, Swamp Thing is experimented upon by Jason Woodrue, who makes an incredible discovery. Meanwhile, Abby and Liz track down the secret facility to free Swamp Thing. And Daniel Cassidy makes a fateful decision based on a possible future that the Phantom Stranger shows him.”"

We read Conclave facility, captured, and “The Anatomy Lesson,” and we immediately double down on our anatomy-themed comic arc fan theories. (The comic version of “The Anatomy Lesson” starts kicking up at the end of Saga of the Swamp Thing #20, in case you’re interested in delving in before or after you have a chance to watch episode nine.)

Liz and Abby’s impending rescue mission makes us simultaneously worried and relieved. Given Dan Cassidy’s critical decision, we wonder if he’ll join them on their impromptu rescue mission. Or does the Blue Devil has a side arc of his own?

Our blood pressure is already elevated, and the episode hasn’t aired yet. Clearly, Swamp Thing knows how to build tension even in its promotional material.
