Swamp ThingWith beginnings and deadlines as the themes for this week, Swamp Thing episode 6 will give us more insight into a couple of antagonists and Blue Devil.

As Swamp Thing continues to embrace his new form and bury his old self, episode 6, “The Price You Pay” will give the Guardian of the Green a new rival to deal with.

Swampy doesn’t really catch a break, even though he really needs a mental health day (or five), and Matt Cable’s involvement in his superhero origin story is just beginning. Since beginning and rebirth is on-brand for any Swamp Thing production, Matt and Alec’s rivalry isn’t the only thing that clearly kicks off this week.

Given the promotional media this week, this episode could weigh more on Dan Cassidy’s decisions as we learn more about his past. Episode 6, “The Price You Pay,” implies a debt is paid or going to be paid in the undetermined future. Swamp Thing might think he sacrificed his old life to become the protector of the swamp, but we know he hasn’t paid any debts. Dan, on the other hand, has a running debt.

“The Price You Pay” is an ominous title. However, we have a feeling this title is less inquisitive than it is demanding. Considering the Blue Devil’s subplot and Danny’s involvement in this episode, the title is likely referencing the price you pay to the Blue Devil. Sure, the must is missing in the title, but the debt is implied.

As the Warner Bros. Television Division’s synopsis for this week’s episode notes, the debt Dan Cassidy owes could be in jeopardy, thanks to Avery Sunderland’s henchman. And you know what that means… a devil’s going to have to intervene:

"Increasingly alienated from humanity after being hunted by sheriff’s deputies and animal trackers, Swamp Thing struggles to understand his strange condition. Reassuring him that they will find a cure for his condition, Abby and Swamp Thing are discovered by Matt who learns the truth about Alec Holland. Meanwhile, Avery pressures Woodrue to deliver results, which escalates his experiments with Swamp Thing’s genetic materials and leads him to a test on Daniel Cassidy; while Lucilia Cable gets some perspective on her son’s recent actions."

Yep, Woodrue is completely devoted to his corrupt scientific role in this week’s episode. We might not see him transmute into the Floronic Man just yet, but his experimentation on Daniel Cassidy will be interesting, to say the least.

The series introduced some New 52 villains, strange DC Comics characters, and it even pays homages to the canon horror. That doesn’t mean the show hasn’t changed some details about Alec Holland’s transformation into the preexisting protector of the Green.

Perhaps a certain supernatural force will stop Woodrue from experimenting on Dan Cassidy, which could prompt Woodrue’s transformation into the ultimate plant-hating enemy of the Green. After all, Swamp Thing has a knack for packing in a lot of action every episode. And we know it will be able to deliver plenty of nemesis-level tension between Swamp Thing and Matt, along with more Swamp Thing mythos.
