Understanding the betrayal that came at the hands of Peter Pettigrew

It isn’t just that he turned to work for Lord Voldemort, there is so much more to Peter Pettigrew that is littered with betrayal for so many of our favorite characters.

Peter Pettigrew is the kind of character who betrayed not only the characters in the story but fans as well. We fell in love with the Marauders, wanted to know them and their friendship, but now, no matter what we learn, we’re forced to remember that Peter is the reason that James and Lily Potter are dead.

Pettigrew’s betrayal was all about his own personal gain, why else would he lead his friends to the slaughter? Because Voldemort promised a better life for those left behind. It’s the same concept as people who willingly hurt others because they think it’ll end up better for them in the long run.

Peter didn’t care that he was letting his friends die. He cared about what he was going to get out of the deal and that’s maybe the saddest part of this. Throwing your friends under the bus and clearly not caring shows that you never really loved them at all. And for those of us who love the Marauders, it is a hard pill to swallow because we believed that these friends loved each other through it all.

So yes, I pretend like Peter Pettigrew doesn’t exist but still, understanding why his betrayal hurt so much is important for us all to begin why he would even both turning his friends over to Voldemort.
