The Best Lies – Sarah Lyu

Keeping in line with the theme of suspenseful young adult stories that seem to be cropping up this July, Sarah Lyu is also debuting a psychological thriller sure to take readers on a wild ride. The Best Lies has it all: questionable narratives, alternating timelines, and untrustworthy characters — the perfect combination of elements to keep readers on the edges of their seats at all times.

The novel follows Remy Tsai, a girl who counted herself happy and secure in her future not long ago. She believed she had her life all figured out. And with the perfect boyfriend and the perfect best friend, who could blame her? What more could a high school student really ask for?

But Remy’s life is upended when her boyfriend, Jack, is shot in the chest by her best friend, Elise. Unable to make sense of the chain of events that led up to the murder, Remy attempts to investigate the situation alongside the police. Desperate to hold onto a scrap of the friendship she once had with Elise, she must uncover whether the other girl’s actions were motivated by self-defense or something far more sinister.

Fans of books like Kit Frick’s See the Stars or Abigail Haas’ Dangerous Girls will want to get their hands on Lyu’s release ASAP, especially if they have a few hours to kill at the beach. The Best Lies is sure to be a page turner that’ll leave you wondering whether you can even trust the words on the page in front of you. It comes out on July 2.
