Fear The Walking Dead: 5 top moments from “Skidmark”

Fear The Walking Dead confirmed a connection to Rick Grimes and made Skidmark an icon in this week’s episode, “Skidmark.”

There were some great emotional moments and action moments in Fear The Walking Dead‘s episode this week. The show really is at its best when it has a combination of drama and action, and “Skidmark” was a great example of how well the writers can balance delivering character development and impressive action sequences in the same episode.

Fans got a little more information about Daniel’s story, or at least a better look at how he’s been living. Daniel and Skidmark have been sharing a giant warehouse packed with stuff including several vehicles and the plane that Strand desperately wants so that he can go rescue the others.

But there is still a lot about Daniel’s life that we don’t know, like how he got to the warehouse, who he inherited it from, and who is his mysterious friend that he’s saving that cigar for. While Strand and Daniel were figuring their stuff out Alicia and Morgan managed to rescue Annie and Max after Dylan told them the truth and then the kids revealed the bombshell that they had seen the mysterious helicopter people before.

But even the revelation about the helicopter group and the realization that now the FTWD arc is headed towards a major intersection with the departure of Rick Grimes could overshadow the real star of this week’s episode – Skidmark the cat. Skidmark is at the top of the list of best moments in Fear The Walking Dead this week … because he is now a fan favorite and icon.

Skidmark the walker hunter

Skidmark proved that it’s not just dogs that can be useful in the apocalypse. He expertly drew out walkers thanks to the bell on his collar, letting Daniel kill them safely. He even would jump up on windowsills to draw the walkers inside a building to the front, allowing Daniel to slip while the walkers were occupied. Thanks to Skidmark’s quickness, he could easily keep himself out of harms’ way when the walkers closed in on him. In the apocalypse world everyone has to work for what they get — and Skidmark is no exception.

Daniel and Charlie bond

When Charlie got into Daniel’s vehicle she thought that she was hidden, but Daniel knew she was there all along. These two bonded over some music and over a similar outlook on life. Daniel and Charlie have an unexpected bond that is wonderful to watch. While no one could ever replace his daughter Ofelia, it might do Daniel some good to spend more time with Charlie. Maybe his bond with Charlie can help smooth over some of the still rough edges of his grief.

Strand and Daniel find common ground

The situation between Strand and Daniel was bound to come to a head at some point. It was resolved in the best possible way with no one getting shot in the face this time. Daniel called out Victor for lying about knowing where Ofelia was, and Victor (for once) took responsibility for his actions.

He admitted what he did and owned the consequences of his actions, which led to Daniel not finding Ofelia until it was too late. He also sacrificed the plane to save Daniel instead of just taking off to go save the group. Daniel left Strand, Charlie, and the twins the warehouse, but hopefully he will be back now that he and Victor have found some common ground.

The propeller kills

Was it genius or madness that prompted Strand to lead the herd directly into the propellers of the plane so that he could kill them en masse?

Whatever it was, it made some gnarly looking splatter as the propellers ripped the walkers to shreds. That scene has to be one of the most disgusting but effective killing scenes that Fear The Walking Dead has done so far. It could always be outdone as the season goes on.

That helicopter reveal

Fans already saw that the helicopter that took Althea has the same symbol painted on it as the one that took Jadis and Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead, but since there was only a glimpse of it before,  it was a fantastic moment to see the helicopter for several seconds on screen as it lifted off and flew away. This cements the helicopter group as more than just a passing plot point in the current arc. Expect some intriguing connections between the two shows coming up.

It looks like fans won’t have to wait long to find out what those connections are either. This week’s episode, “The End Of Everything,” will finally reveal some information about what happened to Althea and who CRM really is.
