The brilliance that is Meg March: The new Emma Watson character in Little Women
Emma Watson is a wonderful actress but we’re looking at the character Meg March from Little Women, the next character she is going to be bringing to life on screen.
If you have ever read Little Women or if you have seen any of the countless movies about the novel, you probably know about Meg March. While we know that Emma Watson is taking on the role in a new Greta Gerwig movie, it is fun to think about Meg March as a character and what she means.
As the oldest of the March sisters, Meg was meant to set an example. She wanted to have fun and go on adventures, just like Jo March did, but she couldn’t really let all the ideas of society go to the wayside. There was a part of her that always had to be the role model that her sisters needed. So she didn’t get to be a free writer like Jo or the artist like Amy. She couldn’t play the piano like Beth, she just had to be the one who showed all her sisters what it meant to be a March sister.
It is going to be interesting to see how this character is re-imagined for 2019 because she isn’t very modern. The rest of the March sisters can be but Meg is the only one who still had to abide by the times the most. So watching as this story is told again with Emma Watson as Meg is going to be an interesting thing. Then again, we love Emma Watson so anything she does is going to be amazing.
