Growth in the Harry Potter series: How James Potter went from the worst to the best

James Potter was maybe the worst when he was at Hogwarts so we’re going to take a look at his character growth and how he became the character we now know and love.

A lot of the Harry Potter series is about how characters grow and change and James Potter is someone who went through a lot of growth. Growing up privileged, he mocked those he didn’t understand and was rude to people like Snape. But as he grew up, he learned and changed for the better and maybe that’s why so many of us like James Potter now.

He is the kind of character who didn’t understand the world at large until he had to fight for it. Using his talents, he helped take on Voldemort and it, in turn, led to his death and maybe if he hadn’t died, he’d still be a questionable character but James and his willingness to give up his life to protect his wife and son shows that there is a good man beneath everything he did in his youth.

The Marauders are complicated because they were all going through their own things and trying to understand what was happening in the world but still, they learned and grew and became the kind of men who gave their lives to protect the wizarding world. (Minus Peter, we don’t count him.)

James Potter may have started as a questionable man, a bully while at Hogwarts, but he grew and started to learn from his mistakes and he tried to be a better person and maybe that is something we should commend him on.
