Talking about Romilda Vane and the complicated girl who wanted Harry Potter

facebooktwitterreddit

She was known as the girl who wanted to put a love spell on Harry Potter but there was more to Romilda Vane than just someone who wanted a boy who didn’t want her back.

Romilda Vane was the kind of character that I used to love as a kid. Not because she was very important in the series but because she had a crush on Harry Potter and wasn’t afraid to let people know about it.

Flashforward then to the movies and she was basically shunned for her attraction to Harry and turned into a joke which, as a woman, I don’t really appreciate. But she represents something more. She represents those of us who have crushes that are never returned and what it means to just kind of sit in the background and watch your crush go on by. Sure, Romilda seemed fine within the series, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t relatable.

She’s a girl who knew what she wanted and couldn’t figure out how to get it. And that’s fine, that’s cool. Just don’t make her a joke. Because she represents what so many of us go through. We see a boy we like, we try and impress them, and, instead, we’re just their fun person they can flirt with and leave behind. Sounds terrible, right?

Well, that’s essentially what Romilda was and we deserved to know more about her than just being a girl who had a really big crush on Harry Potter. Romilda Vane could have been a character many of us related to in the series!
