Lena Headey wanted a better death for Cersei

Game of Thrones fans who wanted a more satisfying death for Cersei Lannister aren’t alone. Lena Headey had some issues with her character’s demise, too.

Cersei Lannister might have been the final boss of Game of Thrones season eight, but her character didn’t do much more than stand at the window of the Red Keep and sip wine during the show’s final episodes.

It’s safe to say most fan’s were dissatisfied with the end of her villain arc, as well as the way she perished, and they aren’t alone in that. Lena Headey, the actress who portrays Cersei, also wasn’t completely happy with her character’s end.

During an interview with The Guardian, Headey admitted that there are a few issues she’d like to bring up to show runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss next time she sits down to have a drink with them.

”I will say I wanted a better death,” Headey stated, and it’s understandable why she’d feel this way. Most fans were less than thrilled with Cersei’s demise in “The Bells,” during which she’s crushed to death by the collapsing rubble from the Red Keep.

“Obviously you dream of your death,” she continued. “You could go in any way on that show. So I was kind of gutted. But I just think they couldn’t have pleased everyone. No matter what they did, I think there was going to be some big comedown from the climb.”

And while there’s certainly meaning behind her dying in the arms of her twin brother, it would have been nice to see Cersei engage in a bit of confrontation before making her exit.

After all, Cersei has pissed off a lot of people over the course of the series. She was at the top of Arya Stark’s list of names for years, and her decision to execute Missandei is what led to Daenerys’ merciless assault on King’s Landing.

Surely, someone should have confronted her before the finale, and Headey previously expressed this sentiment as well, telling Entertainment Weekly that she “wanted her to have some big piece or fight with somebody.”
