Sakima

It’s rare for queer artists to be open about their sexuality, but it’s even more rare for them to so blatantly talk about their sexuality in their songs. And then there’s Sakima. Sakima has known he was gay since he was a child, and started writing music at 8, which might explain why he’s so used to using his sexuality as inspiration. He released his debut EP Facsimile in 2017, and he’s been unapologetically queer ever since!

Sakima’s musical style can be described in many different ways: electro-pop, R&B, alternative pop, but no matter how you label him, he still has songs to cry to, songs that will make you feel sexy, and songs that will make you want to dance. His song “Daddy” is an obvious choice for any Pride playlist. As the title suggests, Sakima is singing about a guy he’s interested in, and he asks “Will you be my da-a-addy?” The song is unapologetically sensual, and the music video was just as risque, featuring men making out, rolling around together, and in a state of undress.

Other songs you can include are “Death Is In The Air” which puts a happy face on a sad song (“keep laughing when I want to scream”) or “Apps,” which is inspired by gay hookup culture and the popularity of apps, and how they affect us. The London-based singer doesn’t shy away from difficult topics, even if some queer artists avoid them in order to seem more palatable for the mainstream audiences.
