SOPHIE

Sophie is another name you may not recognize, but she has worked with plenty of your faves in the past, so you should know her well. Sophie is a producer who makes industrial/experimental electronic pop music, and she has worked with the likes of Madonna, Charli XCX, MØ, and of course, Kim Petras.

Sophie has been releasing music in 2013 and made big waves when she announced she was transgender in October 2017, following the release of her single “It’s Okay To Cry.” She later announced the release of her new album Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides, which earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album, making her the first trans woman to ever be nominated in that category, and only the third ever to receive a Grammy nomination.

The producer has been linked to Lady Gaga and allegedly worked on a track for her forthcoming album, and was even rumored to be working with Rihanna on her next album. But until we get those songs, Sophie has plenty of her own that will be perfect for Pride season. The first ones that come to mind are the impossibly upbeat “Immaterial” and the aggressive “Lemonade.”

If you’re interested in some of the songs she produced for other artists, you definitely need to check out “Roll With Me,” “Girls Night Out,” and “Lipgloss” by Charli XCX, “When I Rule The World” by Liz, “B Who I Want To B” by Namie Amuro featuring android pop star Hatsune Miku, and of course, “Bitch I’m Madonna” by the queen of pop herself.
