Kim Petras

Kim Petras could easily fill an entire Pride playlist by herself, so get ready to hear lots of her this Pride season! The German singer first got media attention when she was a teenager for being one of the youngest people to ever undergo gender reassignment surgery at age 16. She started doing some modelling and recording music in Germany, but it wasn’t until she started working with producers like The Stereotypes, Aaron Joseph, and Dr. Luke that she got any attention.

Petras really took off when she released the bubbly dance-pop tune “I Don’t Want It At All” about wanting to live the life of luxury, but with someone else paying for it (“I wan’t all my clothes designer, I want someone else to buy ‘em!”). The song blew up, also with LGBTQIA+ music fans on sites like Twitter, who ate up her follow-up singles, “Hillside Boys” and “Hills.” In 2018, she released the single “Heart to Break” on Valentine’s Day, and the song was an obvious hit. It was catchy, upbeat, and showed off Petras’ vocal abilities, and it also solidified the fact that she was one to watch.

Fast forward to now, and Petras has released a Halloween EP and plenty more singles, including collabs with Cheat Codes (“Feeling of Falling”), Charli XCX (“Unlock It”), and Sophie (“1,2,3 Dayz Up”).

Even without having released a full album, she has already started a new “era” by releasing six different songs over the last couple months, including the disco tinged “Sweet Spot” and the raunchy anthem “Do Me.”
