Captain Marvel director addresses if we’ll ever see a team up with Valkyrie

Fans of the MCU are eager to see Captain Marvel and Valkyrie team up. Could this pair be something we see in future MCU movies?

Throughout Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Marvel fans got to see some of their favorite characters — who remained mostly separate from one another during their own films — team up in the fight against Thanos. And Marvel pairings almost always lead to some iconic relationships, like the comical friendships between Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy or the touching friendship between Tony Stark and Nebula. Even Captain Marvel had a few fun moments with the other characters in Endgame, despite her absence during the majority of the film.

But fans of the MCU are eager to see Captain Marvel play a bigger role when it comes to future installments, and many of them are rooting for her to team up one-on-one with the remaining heroes in the MCU. One pairing in particular that fans have been pushing for is Captain Marvel and Valkyrie. And it’s hard to deny that these two ladies wouldn’t make a great team — especially since Captain Marvel is dedicated to protecting all civilizations in the universe, and Valkyrie is the newly appointed leader of Asgard.

Fans aren’t the only ones excited about a possible collaboration between Captain Marvel and Valkyrie, either. Both actresses are on board with the idea, as are Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. In fact, when Cinemablend’s Eric Eisenberg raised the subject with them, Fleck responded:

"There’s been a lot of… look, I have no idea what the plans are for the future. But the speculation online about Carol and Valkyrie teaming up, I think, is a pretty cool, pretty cool idea."

The fact that Carol’s storyline could easily mesh with Valkyrie’s isn’t the only benefit of throwing the two of them together. Marvel has been promising fans more LGBTQ+ characters in future endeavors, and many feel that a romantic relationship between Carol and Valkyrie would make sense. After all, the first Captain Marvel left viewers wondering if there was more to Carol’s relationship with Maria than mere friendship, and Valkyrie actress Tessa Thompson confirmed on Twitter that her character is bisexual.

In fact, fans are feeling a Captain Marvel and Valkyrie relationship so much that there’s even a #Valkarol hashtag on Twitter. Really, how could anyone pass up fan art this adorable?

Still, even with everyone rooting for some screen time between these two, Fleck’s statement suggests fans won’t see them together in the very near future. The details about the next phase of the MCU are currently too sparse to know if and when a Captain Marvel sequel is even happening, much less to determine whether or not characters like Valkyrie will be present.

There’s also the question of Valkyrie’s future in the MCU outside of Thor and Avengers. While many of us would love to see her appear in a Captain Marvel film, it’s equally as important that the new ruler of Asgard gets her own installment in the franchise — especially since the need for female superheroes, and especially female superheroes of color, is greater than ever.

When the next phase of the MCU does begin, however, we’ll be waiting to see what happens between these two. When you think about it, there’s no better team to lead us into Marvel’s next chapter.
