Velocity Weapon – Megan E. O’Keefe
Speaking of science-fiction releases bound to spark some engaging discussions, Megan E. O’Keefe, the author of the Scorched Continent trilogy, is also publishing a new novel this month. The first installment in a new series dubbed The Protectorate, Velocity Weapon is a space opera that meshes action, politics, and technology together to tell its story.
Velocity Weapon focuses on two siblings, Sanda and Biran, both of whom were “destined for greatness.” The two complemented one another well, with Sanda becoming a powerful soldier and Biran playing the role of the aspiring politican. Together, they could have attempted to stop the intergalactic war. But, as every reader knows, stories rarely ever end that easily.
Sanda’s greatness gets put on hold when she’s blown out of the sky during an operation. The next time Sanda wakes, she discovers she’s on an enemy ship — and has been for 230 years. During that time, the war between Ada Prime and Icarion has come to a tragic ending, with both parties wiping themselves out of existence. Separated from Biran, Sanda sets out to fix all that’s happened. Unfortunately, being trapped by an antagonistic AI spaceship and propelled years into the future might make that a difficult feat.
O’Keefe’s latest novel takes the war-in-space plot to a new level, exploring what happens after the war has already been lost, and whether or not such things can ever be undone. Sanda’s story is sure to take readers on an emotional and exciting ride, and all while following a powerful female protagonist — something we just don’t get enough of in science fiction. Fans of dramatic space operas can officially grab a copy of Velocity Weapon on June 11.
