Ghosts of the Shadow Market – Cassandra Clare et al

Although most of the short stories featured in Ghosts of the Shadow Market can be read individually, Simon Teen is releasing a complete bindup of the collaborative works between Cassandra Clare and authors like Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Kelly Link, and Robin Wasserman. Even Shadowhunter fans who have read most of the stories already can expect some new content, with two new stories being published exclusively in the print edition.

Ghosts of the Shadow Market delves deeper into the Shadow Market readers are introduced to during The Dark Artifices. It’s the place where Downworlders, and even the occasional Shadowhunter, venture to find objects and information that the Clave probably shouldn’t get wind of. Fans revisit this setting through the perspective of Brother Zachariah, but the stories focus on far more than Jem’s former life as a Silent Brother.

Through Brother Zachariah’s trips to the Shadow Market, readers will witness moments of Shadowhunter history Clare has mentioned in previous books, but in far greater detail than before. Ghosts of the Shadow Market will take them through Anna Lightwood’s first romance, Valentine Morgernstern’s dealings, Matthew Fairchild’s mistakes, and even Jace’s struggles.

With 10 stories in total, there’s plenty of ground to be covered in Ghosts of the Shadow Market — and that’s probably a good thing, since Clare fans have quite a wait until her next full-length Shadowhunter novel, Chain of Gold, finally hits bookstores. Thankfully, this one comes out on June 4.
