By Lacy Baugher
The Evil Queen – Gena Showalter
Some people might think we have enough YA retellings and reimaginings of the Snow White story these days. Nope! Never! Author Gena Showalter is about to drop an all new spin on the classic with The Evil Queen, a story in which fairytales are actually prophecies.
What happens when a young girl in Oklahoma discovers that she’s really from the realm of Enchantia, has a strange power to communicate with mirrors and, more likely than not, is fated to become the famous Evil Queen of Snow White lore?
Are we all destined to be either good or evil – or can we choose our own futures?
The Evil Queen will be released on June 25.
Wicked Fox – Kat Cho
This fantasy-romance set in modern-day Seoul aims to utilize the conventions of popular K-dramas to present a whole new take on a YA fantasy.
Wicked Fox follows 18 year-old Miyoung, a girl who is secretly a Gumiho, a nine-tailed fox who eats the souls of men to survive. (Go girl, I say.) Every month, she consumes the souls of bad men – criminals and those who have evaded justice. After all, there are many terrible men that the world won’t miss out there.
But her life changes after she rescues a human boy named Jihoon as he’s attacked by a murderous goblin, and the two develop a friendship that turns into something more. Naturally, that comes with its own set of life-and-death problems for both Miyoung and Jihoon.
Wicked Fox will be released on June 25.
Happy summer reading!
