Harry Potter and the Dursleys: The relationship that never will be and for good reason

The Dursleys were absolutely terrible to Harry Potter and their relationship was constantly terrible for Harry and there is no reason for it to be any other way.

Giving someone a home isn’t always easy but the Dursleys were exceptionally evil to Harry Potter. He wasn’t their nephew who needed help. He was seen as their servant and someone they could verbally abuse and underfeed just because they didn’t like his parents.

It shows how terrible the Dursleys consistently were. So is it upsetting that they didn’t get to reconnect with Harry after everything? Absolutely not. They don’t deserve to have a ‘life’ or ‘relationship’ with him.

His entire life, he was searching for someone to look up to. A male figure he could trust and see as his father figure but seeing Vernon Dursley wasn’t the kind of figure he needed. Which shouldn’t have been the case.

Vernon and Petunia had a duty and they let down not only Harry, but Lily too. They turned Harry into their ‘project’ and the fact that neither felt remorse for that is exceptionally sad. He was in their care and there was nothing they did to help him.

Look, even Dumbledore is at fault because he should have never left Harry with them in the first place. He was selfish, thought it was ‘best’ for Harry and never checked in to see what was actually best for him. Which isn’t fair to Harry and the Dursleys definitely don’t deserve to have a good relationship with Harry ever.

Sure, the Dursleys gave Harry a home but they also ended up torturing Harry Potter throughout his entire childhood so watching as they continued to not have a relationship with Harry was fine. They don’t deserve him.
