Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD review: Living it up on an alien world
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD shows us a new alien planet. And teaches us that maybe you should ask someone before eating alien foods.
How crazy will this week’s episode of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD be? Well, we’re stuck in Deep Space going after Fitz with Simmons and Daisy running around. How bad can it get?
It’s a near-mutiny against Simmons onboard and she has the attitude to warrant it. They get boarded and the weird guy doing their check-in knows of Fitz and isn’t happy they said his name.
We get a very evil “hunter” who’s hunting Fitz down because he’s a timeline anomaly. Check-In guy tells them Fitz is on Kitson. “What happens on Kitson is contagious and burns.”
Too bad they eat some of those colorful treats Enoch said aren’t good for Terran consumption. Because it gets trippy. And hilarious. I honestly never thought I needed Daisy and Simmons tripping together and making their serious mission into a girls night and talking about what Hogwarts house they are.
And that whole scene of them crying and caressing each other’s faces underneath the bar was sheer goofy perfection. The kind of character development this show needs.

Fitz and Enoch are in Kitson City and wanted by everyone with a bounty on their head. They’re given one casino chip in return for the slugs and have to win their way to fortune to get off the planet.
Ocean’s Eleven heist, anyone? …No? Okay.
It’s very much a mix of the card counting scene in The Hangover mixed with the Cantina from Star Wars. Enoch and his deadpan are perfect. Too bad his people skills are “dumb as hell,” as his poker companion describes when he wins all of their money.
Fitz ends up being collateral in space blackjack. And gets caught cheating. But it’s okay! Because he escapes to see Simmons… only to be taken by the hunter and whisked away in a cool portal.

Post-Credits Stinger
Back on Earth, Sarge and his crew fire a sensor into the sky to count how many of something are on Earth. Looked like six or so around North America. Time anomaly people?
Badass Moment of the Week
Daisy is totally in the zone with her powers now. Her breaking that dude’s fingers to get answers about Fitz was excellent.
Best One-Liner
“I’m tripping balls.” From the mouth of Daisy. Something I never thought I would hear on Agents of SHIELD.
Did anyone else get a Stranger Things theme song vibe from the soundtrack for this episode. Super Eighties. It worked well with the color scheme for sure.
I also enjoy that Davis and Piper are featured a little bit more. If SHIELD is an agency actually up and running, it has to be more than just our six compatriots.
So the mystery dude in black hunting Fitz is a different kind of Chronicom from Enoch. A dangerous one (since he’s just an anthropologist). I also thought Enoch’s spiral into despair.
Next week’s Agents of SHIELD gives us the return of Deke! Who sounds very eager to see Daisy again… and doesn’t understand why Coulson is trying to kill him.
