Ghostly Fun: Magic Kingdom guests enjoy new interactive fun at the Haunted Mansion, where voices, music and other paranormal behaviors get passersby in the “spirit.” The new queue is inspired partly by favorite characters previously seen only inside the Haunted Mansion. The exciting new Magic Kingdom experience can be found at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. (Photographer: Matt Stroshane).

The Haunted Mansion

Originally conceived as a walk-through attraction at Disneyland, The Haunted Mansion has become one of the most iconic attractions at Disney parks around the globe. At Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park, the ride takes guests through a stately mansion that looks a bit run down and decrepit.

Guests start out walking through the gardens, which look like they haven’t been tended to in years. They will spot a horse-drawn carriage with a casket inside along with dead flowers. Then as they get closer to the entrance of the attraction, they will go through an interactive space that features a murder mystery with stone busts, creepy music, and books that just won’t stay in the bookshelves.

Once inside the mansion, guests will spot a dying portrait of Master Gracey, which then leads into the famous stretching room. To be the first person out of the stretching room be sure to stand as close to the tightrope girl as possible since the door to the corridor to board your doom buggy is under her.

After you’re on your doom buggy, you’re taken on a tour of the mansion and shown a swinging wake. One of the most iconic scenes inside The Haunted Mansion is the dining room scene where guests will see ghosts dancing and enjoying birthday cake.

While a FastPass+ reservation is not required for The Haunted Mansion, it will make the wait a little less. The attraction is great for families of all ages, though little ones might find some of the scenes a bit scary. If there is someone in your group who does not want to ride, be sure to use Disney’s Rider Switch service so everyone in your group gets to ride.
